Equine Endocrinology Group This is the place to get current recommendations for diagnosis and treatment from leading researchers in equine metabolic disease. Don’t waste your money on diagnostic tests that have been replaced by newer science. This group contains the most credible researchers in equine metabolic disease.
Leatherdale Equine Center, University of Minnesota A good source of information about PSSM under Genetic Muscle Disease, get your horse tested for PSSM, learn about EMS, PPID and the difference between them. Under Body Measurements, go to Neck Circumference Measurement and find out officially if your horse has a cresty neck.
Equi-Analytical (aka Dairy One) is the only lab I am comfortable recommending. If you test for sugar or starch elsewhere, it may be difficult for anyone to interpret the results, as tests are not standardized. If you are buying hay in bulk, get the (644) Carb Pack as a minimum, then ask for any additional tests after you purchase the hay. They hold samples for 30 days.
Emergency application of styrofoam video by Gene Ovnecik. This really makes a horse more comfortable and can prevent further damage by supporting the coffin bone. The blue construction foam available at any lumberyard is the best. You can also use cut up garden kneeling pads, flip flops, or yoga mats.
